The St. Vital Bridge over the Red River is getting a makeover!

The City of Winnipeg has launched the St. Vital Bridge Rehabilitation project, which will guide the rehabilitation of the bridge over the Red River from concept to construction.

The project will include rehabilitation of the bridge structures themselves, as well as improvements to sidewalks, active transportation infrastructure, and the Transit network, and will add 50 years to the lifespan of the bridge.

Beyond the bridge structure itself, the project area encompasses Osborne Street from Rathgar Avenue to Jubilee Avenue, and Dunkirk Drive from the ramps at Kingston Row to Fermor Avenue.

From March 22 – 23, 2022, the City of Winnipeg met with representatives from community, business, and special interest groups to learn about how they travel through the area and use the bridge, and how the proposed design may impact day-to-day travel and quality of life.

The next step for the project is to initiate a public art process.

The City is welcoming applications from Winnipeggers interested in joining a public art stakeholder working group that will help shape an eventual art installation in the project area. This group will work together to provide information on neighbourhood context and recommend considerations for the project to the Winnipeg Arts Council.

To learn more about the working group and its terms of reference and to apply, please review the nomination form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XH9BPXG. Please also consider sharing this information and nomination form with others in your neighbourhood who may be interested. Applications will be accepted until Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.

If you have questions regarding the working group please contact Meaghan Pauls at mpauls@scatliff.ca or 204-927-3444, ext. 231.
