On a bitterly cold December day in 2012, seven artists opened their homes for the first South Osborne Arts Group studio tour. I remember people coming into my home and removing their toques and scarves, jackets and boots, and waving their frosty glasses in the air. “This is so much fun!” many of them declared before taking a step further in.

This December, the South Osborne Arts Group celebrates ten years of existence, and we invite you to join us on our December 2022 Art Walk. Though many of the names have changed over the years, the atmosphere and the focus is the same: a joyous opportunity to view art in the studios of artists who live and create right here in our neighbourhood. The overriding principle has always been to provide an environment that is welcoming and open to anyone with any interest in art, where they can be curious and ask questions, and learn about processes and inspirations in a casual setting – no arm-twisting or high-pressure sales tactics. But if you are in the mood for a unique piece of Made in Manitoba art, you will find something here – most of the work on display will be for sale.

The South Osborne Arts Group began with seven members in 2012 and has had as many as thirteen artists at any one time. The group took a two-year hiatus during the pandemic and returned in May of this year when four artists took part. There are eleven current members, and seven of them will be participating in the December tour, representing a wide range of mediums.

Printmaking, pottery, drawing, metal craft, watercolour, fused glass, acrylic and oil painting, photography, ceramics, mixed media, abstract and realism, and so much more. Don’t wait for your friends to tell you how much fun it was. Taking part in the day and seeing art in person is the best way to experience it all.

An art walk is much like a self-guided tour, where you are in charge of the things you want to see and how much time you want to spend. You can choose to visit as many or as few studios as you like, and all of them are within walking distance of one another (although this will depend on what kind of winter Manitoba decides to provide for us). Have a look at our website to see the artists involved this year, find them on the tour map, and plot your course for the day.

We look forward to seeing you.
