École Riverview School has a new play structure! The new structure is accessible to all abilities and ages. It provides a diversity of options for play, gross motor skill development, and socializing. It has two slides, a mini-climbing wall, as well as a shade tent where people can “chillax” (my kids are keeping me hip with the lingo).

Within the Winnipeg School Division (WSD), fundraising for new play structures is the responsibility of parent councils. Fundraising for this structure by the École Riverview School Parent Advisory Council (ÉRSPAC) started Manitoba-style with a Halloween social in 2019. After a few grants from local granting agencies, municipal and provincial governments, as well as the kind support of local businesses and neighbourhood donors, the project was a go!

We are planning to complete phase two of this project in 2023. This work is planned for the green space next to the basketball courts. It aims to fix some drainage issues and add trees and other landscaping to make this a more attractive place for people to play and relax. In addition, this space will include a play house decorated with a collage of artwork from École Riverview School students as well as a sign thanking funders of this project as shown here. The list of local businesses included on the poster was provided to ÉRSPAC by WSD. We are worried that our list of local businesses is not complete. If your business made a donation, but it is not included, please contact erspac@gmail.com.
