Every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. the Churchill Parkway hosts a fun, free and friendly 5 kilometre running event known as parkrun. Runners and volunteers meet up at the park benches located on the Churchill Parkway just below the corner of Ashland and Churchill. Look for the banner and signs.
The events are held all year round and recently resumed after a COVID shut down. Organizers managed to hold several parkruns through the fall and winter before poor conditions due to limited trail maintenance and a rising Red River shut things down again. The warm weather and good trail conditions mean the Churchill Parkway parkrun is back! Parkrun is one hundred percent reliant on volunteers week after week. Volunteer roles are very straightforward and generally require between 30 to 60 minutes of your Saturday morning. We’re interested in building up a bigger roster of volunteers so that our current volunteers don’t get burned out. To volunteer please email churchillparkway@parkrun.com. Training is provided and none of the tasks are especially difficult. If you’re a runner in the Riverview area, please consider participating in parkrun as a volunteer or runner. Over the 56 events we’ve held since June 2019 we’ve hosted runners from all over the city and around the world. You can learn more about the Churchill Parkway parkrun at https://www.parkrun.ca/churchillparkway/.
The Churchill Parkway parkrun is the only parkrun organized in Manitoba and one of 42 parkruns held in Canada. We’re part global community of weekly, free runs organized in 20 countries.
