General Information
Fees must be paid by etransfer or cheque before you can play. Fees include a club fee which helps cover the cost of equipment and club services.
Softball conveners from local community clubs and WSWYSA board members will attend a draft meeting prior to season start where teams will be picked based on several criteria. Teams will be created keeping in mind fair competition, coach availability, number of players from each club, and availability of pitchers. Teams will be held to 12-13 players as much as possible.
All efforts will be made to keep as many of the local players together and playing out of their own club but this is dependent on the number of girls registered, if there is a coach from the community, and the availability of pitchers. Due to this there is a possibility your child may be drafted to another club.
League Information
Riverview softball teams play within the Winnipeg South West Youth Softball Association (WSWYSA). There are three categories for softball in Manitoba:
A (community level – this is the level that Riverview participates at)
AA (players who play A level and want to also play more competitive softball)
AAA (high performance – formerly referred to as A – must tryout in fall before season) https://www.smittysterminators.ca/
The AA level, new for 2022, was introduced as a way to increase skill development and level of competition for those A level players who want to commit more time to softball. All AA players will also play A level softball and may be required to tryout for the AA teams. Each AAA region is able to form up to 3 AA teams which will take place before the season begins.
To ensure no interference with A softball, AA teams will be restricted in days of practice, play and tournaments from the beginning of the season until the respective age category provincials are complete. AA teams may offer practices and exhibition games ONLY on FRIDAY NIGHTS until the end of A provincials. No restrictions are in place following the respective A provincial, with a goal of hosting AA provincials in August for each category.
Coaching Requirements
All teams require coaches, so if you are able please volunteer to coach! For A level, all coaches (including managers) must have completed Respect in Sport certification within the last 5 years. This must be complete by June 1st or the coach or manager will be removed from the team.
Head coaches are required to have additional coaching certification through NCCP.
As with all volunteer organizations, WSWYSA is always in need of people to fill roles on the board. If you have an interest, or would just like more information about WSWYSA, please contact Brad Ewankiw the RVCC softball convener at softball@riverviewcc.ca. You can also contact the RVCC club.
